NCAAF – Week 1

A reminder, I no longer require a subscription to access the handicapping tables, including these CFB Calculated Relative Spread (CRS) tables.  I want as many players as possible to have access to this handicapping tool.  Instead, I'm taking a leap of faith in relying on those that see a benefit in using the tables to contribute an amount in line with what they think it's worth to them.  It's an easy PayPal.Me transaction here.  Thank you in advance.

Week 1 tables below:

Fri., Aug. 26 10:00pmCalifornia -20Hawaii +20
Simple Rating System (SRS)+9.54-14.63
Defense (ppg)-1 (30.7)-2 (35.6)
Home Field00
Totals+8.54-16.63
Calculated Relative Spread -25.17+25.17
Recommended bet (units)CAL -20 (2 units)-------
Comments:
Game being played in Sydney, Australia. Cal lost QB Jared Goff to the Rams as the NFL's no.1 overall pick. He'll be replaced by Davis Webb, a graduate transfer from Texas Tech. Hawaii breaks in a new head coach in Nick Rolovich and will start 6th year Sr. Ikaika Woolsey under center. Expect a high scoring affair as both defenses are less than stellar.
Thurs., Sept. 1, 7:30pmAppalachian State +20(10) Tennessee -20
Simple Rating System (SRS)+5.05+13.94
Defense (ppg)+2 (19.1)+1 (20)
Home Field0+3
Totals+7.05+17.94
Calculated Relative Spread +10.89-10.89
Recommended bet (units)APP +20 (4 units)-------
Comments:
The Mountaineers return 15 starters from an 11-2 team. This is a well coached, veteran team. If you let them hang around bad things can happen. The Vols come in with seventeen starters returning from a 9-4 season that saw the Vols close to beating two of the four playoff teams.
Thurs., Sept. 1, 7:30pmSouth Carolina +3.5Vanderbilt -3.5
Simple Rating System (SRS)-2.18-2.27
Defense (ppg)0 (27.5)+1 (21.0)
Home Field0+3
Totals-2.181.73
Calculated Relative Spread +3.91-3.91
Recommended bet (units)-------VAN -3.5 (1 unit)
Comments:
There is "a very strong possibility" South Carolina will play two quarterbacks in the season opener, Will Muschamp says.
15.2 points per game: It’s one of the easiest ways to gauge success. You can’t win if you don’t score, and only three teams in FBS scored less than Vanderbilt.
Thurs., Sept. 1, 9:00pmOregon State +13Minnesota -13
Simple Rating System (SRS)-7.66+2.46
Defense (ppg)-2 (37.0)0 (25.2)
Home Field0+3
Totals-9.66+5.46
Calculated Relative Spread +15.12-15.12
Recommended bet (units)-------MIN -13 (1 unit)
Comments:
Utah State transfer and redshirt junior Darell Garretson was named the starting quarterback back in the spring for OSU. This is a game that Minnesota should win, but the program also isn't to the point yet where any opponent is a surefire win (except for maybe Indiana State)
Fri., Sept. 2, 8:00pmColorado State +7.5Colorado -7.5
Simple Rating System (SRS)-5.09-3.51
Defense (ppg)0 (27.2)0 (27.5)
Home Field00
Totals-5.09-3.51
Calculated Relative Spread +1.58-1.58
Recommended bet (units)CSU +7.5 (2 units)-------
Comments:
Game in Denver. The CSU Rams should be solid on offense, but lost 8 starters. The Buffs finished up just 4-9. They went just 1-8 in Pac-12 play and are now 2-25 in the conference under head coach Mike MacIntyre.
Fri., Sept. 2, 9:00pmKansas State +15.5(7) Stanford -15.5
Simple Rating System (SRS)+1.83+18.81
Defense (ppg)-1 (31.5)+1 (22.6)
Home Field0+3
Totals+0.83+22.81
Calculated Relative Spread +21.98-21.98
Recommended bet (units)-------STAN -15.5 (3 units)
Comments:
Wildcat fans will flock to Stanford Stadium for the opener. Look for McCaffrey to put up big numbers for Stanford, but a lot of eyes will be on QB Ryan Burns, who replaces Kevin Hogan under center. The Cardinal have the class and home field advantage. It might not be an easy cover, but they will.
Sat., Sept. 3 7:30amGeorgia Tech -3.5Boston College +3.5
Simple Rating System (SRS)+1.43-1.73
Defense (ppg)0 (25.8)+2 (15.3)
Home Field00
Totals+1.43+0.27
Calculated Relative Spread -1.16+1.16
Recommended bet (units)-------BC +3.5 (1 unit)
Comments:
Game in Dublin, Ireland. BC will rely on a top defense plus Kentucky transfer QB Patrick Towles.
GT's QB, Justin Thomas is a Senior with plenty of experience. This is an ACC game.

Game at Lambeau Field. LSU owns the longest non-conference regular-season winning streak in FBS history, currently at 52 games. Last year, UW led the nation in scoring defense (13.7 points per game)
Sat., Sept. 3 3:30pm(24) UCLA +3Texas A&M -3

Comments:
UCLA is led by sophomore Josh Rosen, who completed 60 percent of his passes for 3,670 yards, with 23 touchdowns and 11 interceptions, as a freshman last season. Texas A&M has Oklahoma graduate transfer Trevor Knight, who will try to be a one-year savior. Knight has passed for 3,424 career yards and helped Oklahoma upset Alabama in the 2014 Sugar Bowl.

Bet at 5dimes

Sat., Sept. 3 5:30pm(16) Georgia -3(20) North Carolina +3

Recommended bet (units)-------UNC +3 (2 units)
Comments:
Game at the Georgia Dome in Atlanta. It is a new era for Georgia, as Kirby Smart is now the head man in charge after 15 years under Mark Richt. The Tar Heels are coming off an ACC Coastal Division title in 2015 and looking to make more noise this season.
Sat., Sept. 3 8:00pm(17) Southern Cal +11.5(1) Alabama -11.5
Simple Rating System (SRS)+11.53+23.72
Defense (ppg)0 (25.7)+2 (15.1)

Totals+11.53+25.72
Calculated Relative Spread +14.19-14.19
Recommended bet (units)-------ALA -11.5 (1 unit)
Comments:
Game at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, TX. With so many unanswered questions for Alabama, it would be easy to pick a talented USC team here. However, betting against Nick Saban, especially in a season opener, is never a good idea.
Sat., Sept. 3 9:00pm(2) Clemson -7.5Auburn +7.5
Simple Rating System (SRS)+18.88+7.16
Defense (ppg)+1 (21.7)0 (28.2)

Totals+19.88+10.16
Calculated Relative Spread -9.72+9.72
Recommended bet (units)CLEM -7.5 (1 unit)-------
Comments:
Clemson has its All-American quarterback Deshaun Watson back, and is expected to compete for the national title again. Auburn has a lot of unknowns, and head coach Gus Malzahn is facing the hot seat after two underwhelming seasons.
Sun., Sept. 4 7:30pm(9) Notre Dame -3.5Texas +3.5

Comments:
The Irish beat the Longhorns 38-3 last year at South Bend. Texas was 5-7 in 2015.
Mon. Sept. 5 8:00pm(12) Mississippi +5(4) Florida State -5
Simple Rating System (SRS)+14.42+13.59
Defense (ppg)+1 (22.6)+2 (17.5)
Home Field00
Totals+15.42+15.59
Calculated Relative Spread +0.17-0.17
Recommended bet (units)MISS +5 (2 units)-------
Comments:
Game in Orlando, FL. Ole Miss is a dangerous dog under head coach Hugh Freeze, going 7-8 straight up and 11-4 against the spread when getting points during his tenure. The Seminoles return 17 starters from a team that went 10-3 last year. All 11 are back on offense.
